As we approach the autumn equinox, the earth itself reminds us of something we often forget in our busy lives: balance. For just a moment in time, day and night share equal space. Light and dark stand in perfect harmony.

It’s a natural pause, a seasonal reset button. And it offers us an invitation: to notice where our own lives may be out of balance and to step into greater alignment.

The Gift of the Darker Days

In the northern hemisphere, the fall equinox marks the beginning of shorter days. Many of us instinctively resist the encroaching dark, longing to hold on to the long light of summer. Yet the darkness has its own wisdom.

Darkness invites us inward. It offers rest, reflection, and the chance to listen more deeply. Just as the earth quiets to prepare for winter, we too can honor this time by slowing down, tending to what matters most, and allowing insights to rise from within.

Harvesting Wisdom from the Season

The equinox is also a time of harvest — not just of crops, but of the lessons and experiences we’ve gathered over the past months. Ask yourself:

  • What have I grown in my life this year?
  • What is ready to be harvested and celebrated?
  • What might need to be released, like the leaves falling from the trees?

By honoring both the light and the dark, we recognize that each has its role to play. The light reveals. The dark integrates. Together, they create wholeness.

A practice for balance, an invitation to align

The equinox is almost here, a perfect moment to pause and realign before the year’s final season unfolds.

On September 22, I’ll be leading a free Guided Equinox Meditation to help you honor the dance of light and dark, harvest the wisdom of your year so far, and step into autumn with clarity and renewal.

Together we’ll breathe with the rhythm of the season, welcoming both light and dark as essential parts of wholeness.
