Lesson #1: What Is Soulful Power?
What Is Soulful Power?
In Week 2 we learned about the ego—especially its unhealthy expressions—and how it wreaks havoc and creates hurt and drama in our lives.
Once you know where unhealthy ego expressions show up in your life, you can choose to not act on its impulses. To do this requires that you embrace and embody your Soulful Power!
This week we pull the veil back in order to look at how our ambivalence about power can result in giving power away or giving in to conventional (and often unhealthy) expressions of what I refer to as “worldly power.” Once we have an understanding of our relationship to power, then, when the going gets tough, as soulful heroes we draw upon our Soulful Power.
What is Soulful Power?
Soulful Power is the freedom to choose, instead of being sucked into the inertia of unresolved past hurts, repressed emotions, and negative experiences. Soulful Power comes from within and can only be given away by you, not taken from you.
We are in our Soulful Power when we choose curiosity and love in the face of an angry partner, instead of automatically judging and reacting. We are in our Soulful Power when we accept responsibility instead of defensiveness and stories when we have messed up or perhaps broken a commitment. When we are gripped by unhealthy expressions of our ego, Soulful Power allows us to choose to not act on the unhealthy expression, and instead replace it with a courageous act of compassion, generosity, and curiosity.
Every time we act with Soulful Power we transform a situation from negative to positive, from hurt to kindness, from scarcity to generosity and possibility, from resistance to flow, and from self-doubt to self-confidence.
